The #1 Sympton of Web 2.0 Fatigue Syndrome (Web2FS)

Do you have Web 2.0 Fatigue Syndrome (Web2FS) First of all, what is Web 2.0 fatigue syndrome (Web2FS)? I’m not exactly sure but I do know that I have it! With websites like MySpace, Facebook, StumbleUpon, MyBlogLog, Twitter, Tumblr, Digg, Bumpzee and all sorts of new and innovative ways of staying in touch quickly gaining popularity, I am indeed showing signs of Web 2.0 fatigue.

I think I have a MySpace account somewhere. Same goes for most of the accounts mentioned above and more. I may have accounts on various user generated content websites and online communities but in reality, I am definitely not active in all of them. In fact, I am only barely active in a few of them. There simply isn’t enough time in the day to participate in all accounts that I have ever opened. I have a feeling many users are in the same boat.

For me, the #1 symptom of Web2FS is a polite autoresponder of “No I don’t” to anyone asking if I have a [insert Web 2.0 website] account. Most of my accounts are inactive and the ones that are active are only barely so.

Who else has Web 2.0 fatigue syndrome? If so, please share your symptoms and we can start a support group.

  1. Humanity has survived for so long because of their ability to form large social groupings beyond blood relations. As humanity continues to evolve in this realm we call the internet, the need to feel constantly connected to humanity yet still allowing the user to stay anonymous enough to exit instantly is perhaps the reason why the social networking clubs are so addictive.

  2. There’s something else related to Web 2.0. that I’m already tired of. That’s the use of video by IM gurus to try to sell their latest ‘must buy’ product. With a sales letter you can quickly ‘skim and bin’ in seconds, but with a video you’re expected to sit and watch for 5 minutes to find out what it’s all about. No thanks! I’ve better things to do.

  3. Definitely! We only started to venture into the Web2.0 world a couple month ago and we are already SOOOO tired (see also our latest posts at The Cat Realm).
We had to start a paper file folder to keep track and still can’t…
Just this morning we started a new blog about Compulsive Blogging:

So far it hasn’t helped. We are soooo tired….

  4. Unfortunately that is what happens when you try to do it all! There are only so many hours in a day and so there are only so many things that we can do. You have to be smart in the things that you take on to do. Maybe some time management might help, but in reality, we may set schedules but how many of us actually stay on track. We just have to narrow down those things that work best for us and not worry about the rest. We are not superhuman and we cannot do it all.

  6. @msdanielle: Glad I am not the only one who google’s my own name! btw, what you experienced is not from old age but rather, it’s one of the common symptoms of Web2FS 😉

  8. I have a few networks that I’m quite active in, I have accounts with the others but how can one keep up to it all.

I use to enjoy visiting a few forums but I haven’t been to them in ages…

I’m certain most people are also trying to run some sort of blog or home business, who has time??

I think web 2.0 & social networking are great, but you really need to pick your venue and stick to it.
